Street Art in Downtown LA

Anyone tired of the whole street art phenomenon? Well, I’m not. It’s cool to head out for an early morning walk with the dogs and my wife only to see a freshly painted Shepard Fairey on a nearby building. It’s always the same response… “When did he do that? It wasn’t there when we were out last night was it? I swear that’s new.”. Graffiti has certainly taken on a new form in the last ten years compared to what it once was back in the eighties. But wether it’s a political statement or someone just writing their name, the one thing that ties them all together is the artist’s self-expression. As well as their willingness to go out on a limb to do it. Is it legal? No. But I’m not here to judge. And I’m certainly not going to get into the whole copyright issue. My goal here is to give others a glimpse into what I see visually on a day to day basis… like it or not. And if you’re in the area, be sure to check out the Art In The Streets gallery exhibit at MOCA. It’s unbelievable. And if you’re lucky like I was, you may even be able to rub shoulders with Flea while viewing the art. I’ll be sure to post more as they crop up. Cheers.
